Swansea City have named former Wrexham and Liverpool striker Lee Jones as their academy’s first development manager for North Wales.

The former Tranmere academy manager who was also capped twice for Wales across a 20-year playing career will help set up development centres from mid to north Wales to attract more young players into the clubs academy system.

“I am delighted to be here and excited to take on the new role,” Jones said.

“My job will be to recruit from Aberystwyth all the way up to Holyhead.

“Swansea has ambitions to look for players across the whole of Wales rather than just the south and west of the country, and I have come across a lot of talent in those areas over the years.

“My aim will be to start to introduce players from those areas into our academy system.

“Wales is a big football nation and there is a lot of opportunity with players north of the country.

“We don’t want to miss out on young players worthy of playing for the club in the near future.”
