Swansea City played out a goalless draw with Cardiff Met at the Cyncoed campus to pick up what could prove to be a crucial point in the Welsh Premier Women’s League title race.

The Swans had chances in the first half to take the lead with Chloe Chivers seeing a penalty saved, while Katy Hosford hit the woodwork.

The second half was much more evenly contested with both sides creating opportunities to break the deadlock, but the night ended with the spoils shared.

The result leaves the Swans well placed as they have a game in hand on their opponents and are level on points with Met at the top of the table.

Hosford had the first chance of the match as she was fed in by Laura Davies, however, the winger couldn’t direct her shot on target from a difficult angle.

The Swans were then awarded a penalty with 30 minutes on the clock after Tija Richardson was brought down in the box.

Chivers, who has been in fine form this season, stepped up to take the spot-kick, but Annabel Sweeney dived to her left and denied the striker.

Swansea came incredibly close to breaking the deadlock once again as Hosford saw her long-distance free kick clatter against the crossbar.

The visitors kept up the attacking threat they were posing, and it resulted in Shaunna Jenkins having a shot from the centre of the box but it was cleared off the line.

With nerves building Hosford played a tremendous through ball to put Chivers in a one-on-one situation but Sweeney came out quickly, closed the angle down and made the save.

In the closing stages Claire Skinner made a good save to deny Amy Long’s bending shot from just outside of the penalty box as the rivals took a point apiece.
