Swansea City Ladies extended their lead at the top of the Welsh Premier Women’s League to five points with victory at Briton Ferry.

It was a frustrating first 45 minutes for the visitors as they dominated but Ferry’s backline held firm.

But the pressure paid off in the opening stages of the second half as Chloe Chivers opened the scoring, before Ellie Lake ensured the three points made the short trip back to Swansea with a screamer in the 77th minute.

The Swans made a quick start and threatened early on after Chivers picked out Stacey John-Davis in the middle, but the striker was unable to keep her close-range volley down.

The Swans dominated possession in the first half but were unable to find a way through a stubborn Ferry rearguard.

The deadlock was very nearly broken by Jess Williams after she rose in the centre of the box to meet Chivers' corner, but she could only divert her header wide.

John-Davis then nearly squeezed the ball home at the near post from an awkward angle, but home keeper Courtney Young was equal to it.

The second half continued in similar fashion as the first, however, this time the pressure was converted into a goal.

A through ball from Katy Hosford fed in Kelly Adams. The threat was momentarily dealt with by Young, but Chivers showed the awareness to catch the goalkeeper was off her line and dink the ball into the back of the net.

Chivers, in the hunt for her second, was put through by Emma Beynon but her shot across goal was gathered by the goalkeeper.

Lake then deservedly doubled the lead with a long-distance strike which left the goalkeeper stranded as the ball flew into the top left corner.

Moments later, the Swans were threatening once again after Chivers was through on goal, but she couldn’t quite get the desired connection on the ball to bag her brace.

Ria Hughes forced Young to tip the ball over the bar after she struck a curling effort from the edge of the box late on as Swansea's 100 per cent record remained intact.
