Swansea City Ladies come up against Cardiff City Women tonight as they look to secure more silverware in the Welsh Premier Women's League Cup final at Dragon Park, Newport (7:30pm).

The Swans defeated Cyncoed and Cardiff in the group stage of the competition, before overcoming Aberystwyth Town in the semi-finals to book their place in the last two.

Cardiff, meanwhile, defied the odds and beat Cardiff Met 3-2 in an entertaining last-four contest.

The competition was resumed in April and consequently ensured a congested schedule as games were played alongside league fixtures.

Colin Staples: “Whilst the squad are rightly pleased with their performance on Sunday (beating Cardiff 6-0 in the league), our focus now changes to tonight.

“We start at 0-0 and we look to perform again against an opposition hurting after Sunday, so we have to be aware in a one off game.

“For all of the squad, staff and supporters it will be a massive prize but my own focus is doing well for the club.

“Undoubtedly the busy schedule has been all consuming for all concerned, but that just adds to the pride and respect I have for all players, the off-field team and all volunteers, who have adjusted their personal lives in the name of football.

“These are the sacrifices you have to make to earn success on the pitch.”

Remember the last time?

The sides met just three days ago as the Swans completed the league double over the Bluebirds.

Swansea took a commanding lead into the break after finishes from Laura Davies, Tija Richardson and Katy Hosford.

Hosford then went on to secure her second hat-trick of the season, with the sixth and final goal coming courtesy of Stacey John-Davis, who punished Cardiff’s goalkeeper Charlotte Hastings’ fumble to round off a fine performance.

The two sides have faced each other three times in the league and cup this season with Swansea scoring 15 goals and only conceding once.
