Swansea City Ladies are back in WPWL Cup action tonight as they make the trip down the M4 to take on south Wales rivals Cardiff City (7:30pm).

It was announced on April 19 that the League Cup would resume, after the tournament was brought to a halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Swansea defeated Cyncoed 2-1 in November in their opening match of the competition; and they will play a game less than originally planned due to Port Talbot dropping out.

All of which means a victory for Swansea will see them top group two and advance to the semi-final as group winners.

Colin Staples: “From our perspective we want to go to Cardiff, take the best team we can to the game, put on another great performance, guard our clean sheet record and win the game.

“The players are always up for it, but as I have said before it is always great to add a little spice with it being a derby.

“We want to win every game that we play in and we want to keep that undefeated record. So, cup or league, bring it on.

“They (Cardiff) are on an up at the moment and we beat them 3-0 on the opening game of the season, so they will be looking for revenge.”

Remember the last time?

The rivals last clashed in September as they kick-started their Welsh Premier Women’s League campaign with the Swans beating the Bluebirds 3-0 at Leckwith Stadium.

Shaunna Jenkins gave Swansea the lead in front of the S4C cameras with just one minute on the clock with a looping volley.

The victory was then rounded off in the second half after a dominant display from the visitors.

Goals from Stacey John-Davis and Chloe Chivers ensured that Swansea began their league title defence with a convincing win.
