Swansea City Ladies make the short trip to face local rivals Briton Ferry in the Welsh Premier Women’s League tonight (7.30pm).

This evening’s fixture will see the defending WPWL champions play their game in hand on their rivals, and a victory would see them open a commanding five-point lead over second placed Cardiff Met.

The Swans are in fine form heading into the fixture after defeating a stubborn Abergavenny 2-0 on Sunday.

Briton Ferry, meanwhile, have had a tough season so far having only picked up four points from nine matches.

Colin Staples (head coach): “We can only concentrate on our own performances and the standards we have set.

“The players know their jobs and I am sure they will want to carry on their great work ethic.

“It's a new game, it starts at 0-0 and only after the full-time whistle goes can opinions be made on how we did. The players know what our objectives are.

“In the current climate for the country away from football, it is a pleasure to have all the games we get to play, but of course it’s always nice to have the extra spice of a local derby or two.”

Remember the last time?

The previous encounter between the two sides resulted in the Swans sweeping away the Reds 7-1 at Llandarcy.

Tija Richardson and Stacey John-Davis each bagged hat-tricks in the emphatic win, with.midfielder Emma Beynon putting the cherry on the cake as she found the back of the net in the closing stages from close range.

Briton Ferry's consolation goal - scored by Megan Kearle - is the only goal Swansea have conceded so far this season.
