Kris O’Leary | If U23s do the right things, the goals will come

Kris O’Leary believes that Swansea City Under-23s’ continued persistence will eventually lead to them being more clinical in front of goal. 

O’Leary’s side welcome Wigan Athletic to Landore for their latest Professional Development League clash on Tuesday afternoon.

The young Swans are aiming to build on a positive performance during last week’s goalless draw with Coventry City.

Although the development side looked impressive in possession, they were just unable to turn it into goals; hitting the woodwork and being denied by a string of smart saves.

Goals have been the only ingredient lacking since O’Leary’s return to the club; the under-23s finding the net just twice in four games during his reign.

The coach has placed a strong emphasis on finishing on the training field in recent weeks in an attempt to redress the balance.

And he is confident that his players’ efforts in improving in this aspect will eventually paid dividends.

“The performances are there and the boys must be enjoying playing; you can see that through their application,” he said.

“I’m very pleased with that, we’re just lacking the most difficult element which is scoring goals.

“We’ve created so many chances in three of the four games since I’ve been in charge, but we can’t buy a goal at the minute.

“It’s something we’ve concentrated on a lot over the last few weeks; working on different aspects of finishing.

“If we’re doing the right things, the goals will come.”
