Kris O’Leary hails U23s display, but disappointed not to nick a goal

Kris O’Leary was left slightly frustrated after Swansea City Under-23s failed to convert an impressive display into goals during their stalemate with Coventry City.

The under-23s coach felt the players produced their best overall performance since his return to the club at the start of March.

The young Swans looked threatening in possession and solid at the back during the Professional Development League South showdown at the Alan Higgs Centre; keeping their first clean sheet in four games.

But they were just unable to find the breakthrough at the other end.

Coventry goalkeeper Tom Billson made important saves to deny Ali Ali-Hamadi and Michael Murphy, while Brandon Cooper headed over from close range.

The woodwork was also a hindrance for the Swans, who have now found the net just once in their last three games.

And O’Leary insisted the goal was all that was missing from the game.

“It’s probably the best performance since I’ve been back,” he said.

“I’m really pleased about that because it looks like they’re taking the lessons on board.

“Our overall play was very good – especially in the first half. 

“We looked a threat nearly every time we had the ball, but also in different ways. We played through the units and counter-attacked with real pace.

“A clean sheet is a positive and we look a lot more solid as a unit.

“We’re just a bit disappointed that we didn’t manage to nick a goal.

“We hit the woodwork two or three times and had a couple cleared off the line. 

“It was 99 per cent of positivity apart from not scoring the goal.”
