Cooper confirms Wayne Routledge will miss play-off final

Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper has confirmed Wayne Routledge will miss Saturday’s play-off final against Brentford due to a knee injury.

Routledge was forced off during the second half of the second leg victory over Barnsley at the Liberty Stadium, with reports earlier this week suggesting he had suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

And Cooper says the 36-year-old – who is approaching 10 years of service with Swansea City – is facing a long spell on the sidelines, but says talks over the winger's future will be held after the season has concluded.

"Wayne is out, he has suffered quite a bad injury unfortunately,” said Cooper.

“That was last week in the second leg so he will not be available.

“I understand the obvious next question from that is what happens with his future, but we have decided there are – in his words – more important things this week.

“We will focus on the game, so in terms of next season we will pick that up with him next season at his request.”

Ollie Cooper will also miss out on a trip to Wembley due to an ankle injury suffered in training earlier this week, while Brandon Cooper and Tivonge Rushesha will also be absent.

“Unfortunately Ollie Cooper also got injured this week with a very innocuous slip in training,” added the Swans boss.

“He has been in the bench quite regularly over the latter part of the season, but it looks as if he will be out for a while.”
