Connor Roberts on target in impressive Wales win

Swansea City’s Connor Roberts scored the clinching goal as Wales took a big step towards the knockout stages of Euro 2020 with a 2-0 win over Turkey.

Having played the full game in the Group A opener against Switzerland, Roberts was again on the pitch throughout in Baku as Rob Page’s side produced an excellent performance against a Turkish side some had mentioned as potential dark horses to win the tournament.

After spurning a number of chances, Wales took a deserved lead just before the break as Aaron Ramsey latched onto Gareth Bale’s lovely pass to finish.

Wales had to deal with more pressure after the break, with Bale then missing a penalty he had won himself.

But the win was sealed when the Real Madrid forward beat two defenders on the byline in stoppage time, and pulled the ball back for Roberts to score his second international goal.

Roberts' Swansea team-mate Ben Cabango was not named in the matchday squad.

Wales round off the group stage by facing Italy in Rome on Sunday (5pm).
