Brandon Cooper has his sights set on building on a breakthrough season when Swansea City return to action.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Newport County, and made a big impression at Rodney Parade to help the Exiles push for promotion before being recalled to the Liberty Stadium in January.

He was handed a first call-up to the Wales senior squad during the March international window, and made his Championship debut as a substitute in Swansea’s win over Derby in May.

Unfortunately, injury ended his campaign prematurely, with Cooper going through the rehabilitation process ahead of the 2021-22 season.

But he is keen to keep progressing after taking big strides in his development.

“I’m glad I got an opportunity to get out on the pitch with the first team towards the end of the season,” he said.

“My goal is to keep making appearances and ticking off these milestones.

“Obviously, it has come under difficult circumstances with the injury I had when I was recalled, but it is still an important milestone for me.

“I felt like I learnt a lot during my time at Newport, that you can’t ever lie down, you always have to be ready to stand up and try to lead by example.

“I am grateful for the chance I had there and I really enjoyed the experience.

“Since being back at Swansea, every day I get the opportunity to show the gaffer and his staff what I’m about.

“I know I must keep working hard to get more and more experience behind my back.”
