Captain Alicia Powe was proud of Swansea City Ladies' display as they played out hard-fought goalless draw against title rivals Cardiff Met on Wednesday night.

The Swans had several chances to get their noses in front, but picking up a point is still a positive outcome for the defending Welsh Premier Women’s League champions.

The point sees Swansea remain level on points with Cardiff Met with a game in hand, and Powe was delighted with the Swans’ battling performance at the Cyncoed Campus.

“Obviously, we were unfortunate. We had a good few opportunities to take the three points but the girls showed great fight and we thoroughly deserved to come out with a point,” she said.

“The girls' attitude was fantastic. Every time we step across the white line we always fight for each other.

“We took everything we learnt from training into this and that is what we always do but, like I said, we were just unfortunate to not get the three points.

“If there had been a winner then that side should and could go on to win the league. I’m proud of the girls, we worked really hard and we deserve to be in the position that we are in."

Swansea’s defensive record this campaign has been superb and this continued as they picked up their 10th clean sheet of the season in 11 league matches.

“As a defender, that is always what I want to achieve. Claire (Skinner) made some brilliant saves and really kept us in it," said Powe.

“Defending doesn’t just come from the back four, it comes from everyone. We showed great character and put our bodies on the line.”

Next up Swansea travel to face Cyncoed at the USW Sport Park this Saturday, and Powe isn’t underestimating their opposition.

“We are on a high and we have been on that high all season. We never underestimate anybody that we play in this league," she added.

“Every team is good and can cause danger, so we aren’t taking anything for granted. We should go there (Cyncoed) and look to put in another great performance.”
