Captain Alicia Powe hailed a "great achievement" after Swansea City Ladies reached the WPWL Cup final thanks to an extra-time victory over Aberystwyth Town.

It took until the 30 additional minutes for the Swans to find the decisive goals and settle the tie, as Stacey John-Davis popped up twice with simple tap-ins to book their place in the final.

Swansea will come against south Wales rivals Cardiff City in the final at Dragon Park on Wednesday, May 26.

The finalists will face each other twice in a matter of days as they also clash on Sunday in what is the Swans’ penultimate Welsh Premier Women's League match.

“We are really happy to come up here (Aberystwyth) and grab another win,” said Powe, with the Swans having also won at Park Avenue in last weekend's league meeting between the teams.

“To get into a cup final this year is a great achievement, so hopefully we can go on to lift that cup.

“We dug really deep and showed great character. Obviously, it is really hard to come up to Aberystwyth for a midweek game, but we are really happy with the result.

“We are really excited to get to the cup final against Cardiff City.

“We have played them many times before but we will never underestimate our opponents and we will go out on Wednesday and give our all.

“We have back-to-back games against Cardiff City. We are majorly focused on the league right now as that is our next game, so will focus on that, look to get the three points then switch our focus to the cup final.”
